Help The Fight Against Spam
August 4, 2008
As you may know from looking at your inbox, the amount of spam is ever increasing. Estimates vary, but it has been reported that as much as up to 75% of all emails sent are spam emails. Even though spamming is illegal everywhere, spamming is still used as a means for criminals to make money online.
Spammers (or subcontractors of spammers) harvest email addresses from the World Wide Web. They use so-called spambots which work by following links on the World Wide Web much like the spiders used by the search engines to trawl and index webpages. By following the links, the spambots find webpages and whenever they find an email address on a webpage, they store it in their address lists.
New tactics against these spambots have recently appeared. More and more webmasters are using scripts to generate random email addresses and posting these on a page within their websites. Each time the page is reloaded a new list of invalid email addresses is created by the script. The idea behind this is that every time a spambot visits the page, it fills its address list with junk. The more junk on the list, the less value it has. A list filled with junk may even have to be cleared by the spammer leaving the spammer at scratch, having to start over.
Such scripts may be written in the scripting language php. This works, so the script is executed on the web server which then sends the result to the requester. The requester can be your internet browser or a spambot.
At The Online Business Builder we have also created a webpage employing this method. If you want to support the cause, you can do so simply by linking to the page. When a spambot visits your site, it will then end up on the page with the invalid email addresses and harvest them. You can also link to the page from a blog, from forums or anywhere else. You will find the link below.
If you prefer not to link to our site, you can download the script from our page and put it on your own website. The script is simple to use you just need to put in on your web server and create a link to it. It comes with instructions.
Thank you for your support.
